"I’m honestly sad every time National Day for Truth and Reconciliation comes around. I’m reminded of how few people truly grasp the generational trauma colonization has inflicted. It’s disheartening, not just because of the lasting scars Residential Schools have left on my own family and friends, but because of the indifference I see around me. I get that it’s hard to fully empathize with something you haven’t experienced. But the performative gesture of just wearing an orange shirt, without making any real effort to support Indigenous people in your everyday life, is ridiculous."

"I hear comments like, "Yay a long weekend" or "Don't use this day as an excuse to feel sad." But this day isn't about celebration or brushing aside the past. It's about the deep roots in the land. Land has been stolen, cultures and languages have been suppressed, and lives are forever changed. Real change doesn't come from one day. It comes from what we do every day.
